Intel® invests in Magdeburg
The semiconductor manufacturer and industry giant Intel announced its decision to locate in Magdeburg in March 2022. The city thus prevailed against several European competitors. Intel initially wants to build two chip factories in Magdeburg. With an investment of more than 33 billion euros, it is the largest foreign direct investment ever made in Germany. For the Magdeburg region, this means several thousand jobs in the high-tech sector and with suppliers. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2024.
Parallel to the Intel settlement, a new supra-regional industrial and commercial area - the High-Tech Park - is being created in the south-west of Magdeburg on a total area of 1,114 hectares (gross).
The total area is made up of the "Eulenberg" area (state capital Magdeburg), for which Intel has been secured as an anchor investor, and the "Supplier Park" (municipality of Sülzetal / town of Wanzleben-Börde), where other companies from the semiconductor industry and other high-tech sectors and their suppliers are to settle or potential expansion areas for the anchor investor are available.
