A fresh impetus – the economy is picking up speedThe upswing in mood in the regional economy already tangible in the previous quarter continues into the fourth quarter of 2013. The economic climate index of the Chamber of Halle-Dessau Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) rises from 18.4 to 21.5 points, thus achieving the highest level for seven quarters. Opening ceremony for the new Sitel branch in Magdeburg.
Sitel, the contact centre service provider, is strengthening the local economy by creating 200 new customer service jobs. The official opening ceremony for the new Sitel branch in the heart of Magdeburg was attended by renowned clients as well as business and government representatives. Christian Steinebach, Managing Director of Sitel Germany, Eastern Europe and the Netherlands, provided a positive outlook on the future. “The Magdeburg region is no new territory for our company. The experience we have gained in the region over the past years has been excellent and we have cooperated very well with local government and the business community. ITS delivers low carbon footprint PV modules to UK schools.
The Scandinavian-German panel manufacturer Innotech Solar (ITS) has supplied more than 1.400 photovoltaic modules with a total output of 360 kilowatts peak (kWp) to schools in England. All installations were planned and built by Engynious Clean Power UK, a company specialising in developing solar power plants in the UK. Read more.

Agricultural machinery manufacturers in Hohenmölsen to profit from further million investment
The AGCO Hohenmölsen GmbH Company is expanding its production location in the Burgendlandkreis administrative district. The company, part of the US AGCO Corporation, specialises in the development, production and marketing of components and assemblies for agricultural machines and vehicles. It is investing some 15 million Euros in the expansion of a Group competence centre for the manufacture of heavy tractor components, thereby creating 65 new jobs. Read more.

World market leader for core shooting machines is one of the hidden champions in mechanical engineering in Saxony-Anhalt.
The family business of Laempe & Mössner GmbH, which develops, produces and distributes core shooting machines used, for example, in automobile manufacturing, is in its own words the world market leader in this field. In a discussion with the Managing Directors Andreas Mössner and Rudolf Wintgens as well as at the subsequent tour, State Secretary Möllring was satisfied by the competitiveness and innovative power of the regionally-based machine builder. Plastic manufacturer to invest 7.25 million Euros / 43 new jobs
POLYTEC PLASTICS Germany GmbH & Co. KG is to expand their plant in Wolmirstedt (Börde administrative district). The company, which specialises in the manufacture of plastic injection mould components for the automobile industry, is investing around 7.25 million Euros in new machines and systems by the middle of 2014. This is intended to add 43 new jobs to the existing 100 workplaces in Wolmirstedt. The investment is supported by the "Improving Regional Economic Structures" (GRW) joint scheme. The corresponding funding agreement for around 1.44 million Euros was handed over by State Secretary for Economic Affairs Dr. Tamara Zieschang at the end of January 2014. Read more.

HUMAN Diagnostics Worldwide investing in the Magdeburg location
At the end of January, the extension to the production facility of the HUMAN Company was inaugurated in a ceremony in Magdeburg-Rothensee. With an investment volume of around 4.5 million Euros, the production expansion of the internationally active laboratory diagnostics company based in Wiesbaden represents a clear commitment to the Magdeburg location. Federal and state governments invest 39 million euros – Protein Centre to be built at the Weinberg Campus
The future Protein Centre at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) can be built from the summer of 2014. Today the Finance Committee of the state parliament gave the green light for the financing of the new research facility at the Weinberg Campus in Halle at a cost of 39.6 million euros. The federal government had already approved its sponsorship grant of over 19.1 million euros. Protein biochemistry is a focus of research at the MLU. The new research centre will strengthen the cooperation between workgroups in biochemistry, cell biology and medicine with non-university partners. Read more.

Of the 998.2 thousand people in work in Saxony-Anhalt, 1,420.2 million working hours were performed in 2013. The working time per person therefore amounted to an average of 1,473 hours. Read more.
