From September 2018, Big Data Expertise from Saxony-Anhalt will be applied at the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE) in Norway.
The cooperation is based on an agreement between IFE and SAP University Competence Center Magdeburg. As a member of the SAP University Alliances Program IFE uses SAP software licenses for teaching and research. The corresponding hardware and especially the technical know-how for the provision and maintenance of the complex SAP system landscape is provided by the IT experts of the SAP UCC Magdeburg.
Being the world's largest center of its kind the UCC Magdeburg belongs to the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg and operates SAP solutions for more than 500 research and educational institutions worldwide.
IFE is an independent research foundation located in Norway at Kjeller and in Halden. The institute is in the forefront of several fields within international energy research, safety, environmental-, petroleum- and nuclear technology. IFE develops new technological solutions in more than 30 countries. IFE's Isotope Laboratories have an extensive activity in the field of nuclear medicine and development of new radiopharmaceuticals.
In research projects on digital transformation IFE is now going to employ SAP technology as part of IFEs new digitalization and innovation lab. In the initial research project using the SAP technology platform, a simulator of a processing plant is used for collecting real time data from sensors. Streaming analytics will be applied to process continuous streams of event data in real time and act on the results. The aim of the research project is to analyze how the co-operation of interdisciplinary teams can be optimized by testing different big data approaches. UCC Magdeburg data scientists designed and supervise an integrated landscape which forms the technical basis for the research project. Should the applied SAP solutions prove to be suitable, there will be a further expansion of the cooperation between IFE and SAP UCC Magdeburg.
