Cyber agency of the German federal government visits Halle-Leipzig / Haseloff: a strong signal for innovation

The new cyber agency of the German federal government is to be located in the Halle-Leipzig area. Through innovations in the area of cyber security, it aims to better protect the state and citizens. Minister President Dr. Reiner Haseloff commented as follows: “The decision of the federal government is a strong signal for eastern Germany and the Halle-Leipzig region in particular. More innovative and high-quality jobs are now being created here. And not only in the cyber agency. This is set to be the nucleus around which numerous start-ups will develop. This will further advance the region. Our efforts have paid off. Saxony-Anhalt provided consistent support to the location plans during the discussions with the Commission for Growth, Structural Change and Employment. However, the decision by the federal government also testifies to confidence in the potential of the region. With the universities, colleges and research institutions and last but not least the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina in Halle, the foundations on which the Cyberagentur can build here are solid. Both state governments will be working very hard to develop this joint project with the federal government.”

The development of the agency is to start this year. A total of € 200 million are to be invested. By 2023, approximately 100 high quality jobs are to be created here. The agency is to promote research and development projects in the area of cyber security.
