Masterful in Naumburg: State Exhibition of 2011 opened

Entitled “The Naumburg Master - Sculptor and Architect in the Europe of Cathedrals“, the Saxony-Anhalt State Exhibition will be dedicated to the unknown architect and his studio between 29th June to 2nd November 2011 in Naumburg. For the first time, a comprehensive look at the works connected with the Naumburg Master at the site of his eponymous main work - the Naumburg Western Choir - will be presented. Over 300 of the most precious pieces of artwork from sculpture, glass painting and book painting and treasury art from all over Europe and the USA will make the Naumburg Cathedral and four other exhibition venues into a treasure chamber for 127 days. With the exhibition venues of the Schlösschen am Markt, Dom St. Peter und St. Paul, Marienkirche, Domklausur and the “Hohe Lilie” City Museum, an exhibition area of 2,500 square metres is available. The Johanneskapelle auf dem Domfriedhof and the Chapel of the Ägidienkurie are expecting visitors, together with the recultivated cathedral gardens with the mediaeval Kinderdombauhütte [children’s cathedral workshop] and the “Garden of the Naumburg Master” - a garden which exhibits every type of flora in nature which the sculptor reproduced on the capitals of the rood screen.

A lively impression of the productive period of the Naumburg Master is also offered by the six correspondence sites of the State Exhibition. As well as Schönburg, which is situated close to Naumburg, Neuenburg in Freyburg (Unstrut), the Pforta monastery in Schulpforte, Rudelsburg in Bad Kösen, the Merseburg Cathedral and the Cathedral in Zeitz along the southern route of the Straße der Romanik [Romanesque Road] invite you to travel back to the Romanesque era.

Information about the exhibition and how to book entry tickets can be found on the internet at www.naumburgermeister.eu or through the visitor service of the state exhibition, Domplatz 16/17, 06618 Naumburg, telephone +49 (0) 3445 23 01-120, email: fuehrung@naumburgermeister.eu
