Economic Site of Saxony-Anhalt: Latest Announcements

Companies enter the second half of the year with optimism

The medium-sized economy in Saxony-Anhalt views its situation optimistically. This was the result of a survey at the end of May of 340 Saxony-Anhalt companies about the current economic situation and business expectations by Creditreform in cooperation with the Halle Institute for Economic Research. A good half of those companies surveyed view the current business position as “very good” or “good”. Last year, only 40.5 percent of companies were positive in their assessment.

In the manufacturing industry and construction trade, a considerably higher proportion of positive reports were recorded in comparison to last year. 52 percent of the industrial companies surveyed in Saxony-Anhalt (2010: 35.4 percent) and 52.8 percent of construction companies (35.8 percent) awarded positive assessments. Attractive investment activity reflects the economy's confidence in the upturn. 44 percent (41.9 percent) of those surveyed are going to tackle an investment project.

Saxony-Anhalt sets new Focus: State Initiative of “Electromobility and Fuel Cells”

Saxony-Anhalt is leading the way in the field of fuel cells. For example, the Barleben-based company FuelCon has made an international name for itself, with test facilities for fuel cell systems. With the combination of lightweight construction materials and the fuel cell test engineering, Saxony-Anhalt has a strong sustainable potential, Jürgen Ude, the chairperson of the Saxony-Anhalt automobile network MAHREG Automotive, said recently. To further support this, a “State Initiative of Electromobility and Fuel Cells” is to be set up, which is unique to Saxony-Anhalt to date. This should start in autumn, with the objective of locating the strengths and weaknesses of car parts suppliers and the scientific facilities in the state for the future and to develop focal points for development work and their public support using special incentive programmes for the next three to four years.
