Korean Firm uses Proximity to East European Markets: Sandersdorf-Brehna expands Commercial Zone – Railway Siding to come

Mobis general manager Bernd Köhler justifies the choice of location by the excellent transport connections. “In addition to Germany and Austria, our markets are predominantly countries in Eastern Europe. The European roads which meet at the Schkeuditz motorway junction extend in a north-south direction from Sweden to Greece and from France in the west to Kazakhstan in the east. Since we mainly supply our customers via the roads, these transport connections are a great advantage for us”, says Köhler. “The proximity of the airport is also an advantage”, he adds.

In this way, the Brehna-based Mobis Parts European manager outlines the merits of the location which Ingo Gondro, Sandersdorf-Brehna’s economic promoter, also emphasises. “We are especially interesting for enterprises which are active on a supra-regional level,” says Gondro. Because it is not just the nearby motorway and the Leipzig/Halle Airport – ten minutes away by car – that make the location attractive. It is only 35 kilometres from Sandersdorf-Brehna to the Elbe River harbour at Aken. It is four kilometres to the railway connection. Moreover, the “Solar Valley Central Germany Technology Park”, which is also located only a few kilometres away from Sandersdorf-Brehna, is also receiving a direct railway siding and will be enhanced, explains colleague Ralf Salomon. In his words, the location is not only interesting for logistics companies such as Omega Shipping GmbH, which works in Eastern Europe or wholesale car dealer “Autowelt Großhandel”, but for all firms which can profit from the location’s logistical merits. Gondro and Salomon cite Mibe GmbH Arzneimittel (pharmaceuticals), Stahlbau Brehna (steel construction), frozen bakery product manufacturer EDNA and Zimmermann Toast GmbH, a company belonging to the Lieken Group, as examples. All these firms have a common major transport demand.

Altogether there are 90 business enterprises from a huge range of industrial sectors operating out of the 75-hectare commercial zone in Brehna. The area will be expanded by another 141 hectares due to the clearly attractive demand for commercial trade parks, reports Salomon.
