STREGER® Massivholztreppen GmbH in Krüden – now doing exclusive business with Mobirolo of Italy

The stairs from Mobirolo lend themselves particularly well to “young living” split over two floors;  the spiral or string staircases made of fine materials such as chrome, steel and “Nika-Glass” (a specially hardened and laminated glass) connect the two floors with an airy touch, as if floating on air. One can also picture them in architect‑designed homes, modern office buildings, and old factories that are once again to be brought into use. The stairs can be produced in a rich red, a cool blue, or indeed in almost any other colour. They are manufactured in Milan and sold in Krüden.

The exclusive dealership for central and northern Germany has just been taken on by Ingo Rudolph. He was approached by a company representative and found that “these stairs fit perfectly into our product range, filling a gap”. At his own initiative he had a new website set up for this very purpose (advertising being one of his hobbies). He is excited about the Mobirolo design and the material used, even though the trademark of his company is a spiral staircase made of wood and several exquisitely crafted wooden staircases can be found in his office. The 44 year-old admits to needing something new every now and then: “I wouldn’t find the work fun if there wasn’t anything special about it”. And thus his product range also has a certain flair, including an adjustable staircase invented by a colleague, steps inlaid with granite or (rather unusually) slate, and the so‑called “family staircase” where the client, if he or she wishes, can have birthdates, names, and inlays milled into the wood and then subsequently filled-in with laser‑cut stainless steel inserts.

Rudolph has taken a two‑pronged approach for some time. “This includes the retail side of things with stairs “from A to Z” (where customers get custom-made wooden staircases manufactured and installed) and the wholesale end of the business. We supply about 300 carpenters nationwide and from time to time retailers in other European countries such as Switzerland, Austria, Finland and Russia.” The wholesale business with finished custom-made staircases – including mounted staircases, spiral and bolt staircases with EU approval as well as space‑saving staircases – currently accounts for 70 percent of Ingo Rudolph’s turnover. Even those who wish to assemble the stairs themselves need look no further than STREGER® in Krüden, as it even offers a construction kit along with a DVD and instructions.

In the 17 years in which he has had his own business, Ingo Rudolph has supplied more than 8,000 staircases and installed many of them together with his team of fitters. The STREGER team currently consists of six workers, while 25 men are employed by Rudolph's partner in the production area. Modern machinery, including computer controlled milling machines, makes it possible to meet even the most unusual customer wish. Even luxurious staircases decorated with massive lions' heads have been made for palaces and villas on the basis of original templates. According to Rudolph, positive word of mouth advertising is the real decisive factor for the business.

STREGER® Massivholztreppen in the Altmark region will one day be taken over by the boss’s 21‑year-old son, Carsten. The young carpenter joined the company at the beginning of the year.
