Deutsche Telekom is building Germany’s largest data processing centre in Saxony-Anhalt

The Telekom subsidiary T-Systems will have built the largest high security data processing centre of any IT service provider in Germany near Magdeburg by 2015. Once the first phase of building is completed in 2010, around 70 new jobs for highly-qualified workers will be created in Salzlandkreis. Saxony-Anhalt’s Minister of Economic Affairs Dr. Reiner Haseloff is delighted that they have chosen Saxony-Anhalt as their location: “We have been involved in intensive negotiations with T-Systems about the location since the end of 2009. These talks are now complete. The domestic IT sector is already showing strong growth, but this will give it a further push in the right direction. With support in the tens of millions, we are investing in technology absolutely geared towards the future, which will offer good career prospects in the state for a long time to come.“

Telekom boss René Obermann emphasised: “Cloud computing is an engine for growth: When intelligence becomes available online, customers draw on and pay for ICT services flexibly as they need them. Today, this mainly means large corporations, but in the longer term, more and more small companies and private customers will also benefit. This is why we are extending the capacity for cloud computing bit by bit. As a location, Germany offers our customers – including international business customers – an important advantage: an especially secure legal framework for data protection.“

Background:

In so-called cloud computing, users share central computing resources and pay only for the service they have used. This means that the technology’s capacity can be better exploited and the customer saves on costs. Ever faster data connections make this possible. T-Systems already has a data processing centre in Saxony-Anhalt, employing around 500 people in Magdeburg. This will also be extended. The Telekom subsidiary T-Systems will have built the largest high security data processing centre of any IT service provider in Germany near Magdeburg by 2015.
