Staßfurt: CIECH is building a salt plant for EUR 109 million / Willingmann: “An economic sensation”

Minister presents the decision to grant EUR 11.25 million in funding

Major investment in the Salzland district: CIECH Soda Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG is building a new plant to manufacture high-purity evaporated salt products for the food and pharmaceuticals industry in Staßfurt for just under EUR 109 million by the end of 2020. Salt tablets for the treatment of drinking water are to be produced first and foremost. At least 133 new jobs will be created, 33 of them traineeships.

The Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt is funding the investment with EUR 11.25 million from the State-Region Joint Agreement “Improvement of Regional Economic Structure” (GRW). Economics Minister Prof. Dr. Armin Willingmann presented the corresponding funding allocation to Artur Osuchowski, CEO of the Polish CIECH Group, and Mathias Hübner, Managing Director of CIECH Soda Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, today in Staßfurt.

Willingmann said: “The construction of the new salt plant is an economic sensation for the region. Behind this major investment there is a clear commitment from the Polish CIECH Group to further develop the Staßfurt location, which the traditional soda works will also benefit from. It is particularly pleasing that CIECH is going to create many new jobs.”

Background:
CIECH has been running the soda works whose roots date back to 1882 at the Staßfurt location since 1996 with 320 employees at the moment. The CIECH Group was founded in 1945 and states that it is one of the market leaders in the Polish chemical industry today with its eight production locations in Poland, Germany and Romania.
