MINAFIN enters the business segment for highly effective APIs
The Minafin Group has acquired the location from Ajinomoto OmniChem in Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) together with the business segment for highly effective APIs (active pharmaceutical ingredients) and controlled substances. These activities will be integrated in Minafin’s division for pharmaceutical products, Minakem, as a separate division under the name “Minakem High Potent”. Minafin is also responsible for the operation of the mixing plant for amino acids which will be producing as a separate subsidiary exclusively on behalf of the Ajinomoto Group. With this acquisition, Minakem is obtaining new strategic know-how and expanding the scope of its pharmaceutical services in order to accelerate the development of its pharmaceutical market share. Minafin will employ 110 highly qualified employees at the Louvain-la-Neuve location and thereby further diversify its regional portfolio at industrial locations.
Location in Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium)
Since its establishment in 1974 the Louvain-la-Neuve location has played a pioneering role in alkaloid chemistry and is among the first companies worldwide to produce anti-cancer APIs and controlled substances based on plant extracts. With the acquisition Minakem is also able to expand its portfolio towards generic APIs and injectable substances. Minafin’s pro forma turnover now exceeds 135 million euros.
The geographical proximity between Louvain-la-Neuve and Minakem’s French locations Beuvry-la-Forêt and Dunkirk facilitates the development of synergies in R&D and production, whereas the location itself still benefits from the extraordinary academic environment of the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL).
In the meantime, a new, independent marketing team is being established at Minafin’s location in Leuna in order to respond to the demand for complex compounds outside the pharmaceutical market as well as to develop substances based on sulphur and selenium. In addition, the projects initiated under Minathiol in Lacq (France) will be further developed and transferred into production scale at the Leuna location and.
Location in Leuna (Germany)
From now on, Minafin’s factory and the laboratories in Leuna will be consolidated in a new division which is renamed MinAscent Technologies and deals with the production and distribution of high-quality fine chemicals.
MinAscent Technologies will work within the framework of a network together with the American subsidiaries Pennakem and Pressure Chemical, which specialise in niche technologies, and form a bridgehead in Europe for these two companies where production costs are incurred in euros. The aim is also to support our American customers with the development of their business or industrial projects in the European Union.
Minafin is a French private sector industrial company specialising in fine chemistry. Minafin generates annual revenues of over € 135 million and employs more than 700 people. Its activities extend to contract manufacturing, the development of chemical syntheses and the implementation of customised processes on an industrial scale as well as the manufacture of products with high added value for pharmaceutical, cosmetics, agriculture and high-tech industries.
