Education partnership of the state of Saxony-Anhalt with Microsoft Deutschland GmbH
Today at the CeBIT in Hannover, the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt, represented by the CIO and Financial Secretary of State Michael Richter, signed a strategic partnership for the sector of education with Microsoft Deutschland GmbH, represented by Dr. Marianne Janik, member of the executive board.
This defines the strategic principles for creating a digital infrastructure in Saxony-Anhalt. In the first instance, the infrastructural prerequisites for a modern school network will be created, which are to be expanded to create a school cloud (Made by Saxony-Anhalt).
As well as these important principles, each student, teacher and employee of all state-run and independent general and vocational schools will be able to use Office 365 free-of-charge in a very extensive licensing agreement.
Furthermore, both parties want to develop an IT Academy with the Bildungswerk der Wirtschaft, which is the state’s Training Centre of Trade and Industry. It is intended to make it possible for all those involved in the educational process to train, improve and upgrade their knowledge in the field of digital learning. Special Microsoft certificates are also to be offered, especially for vocational schools and academic secondary schools. Microsoft will also enrich early language development with its “Schlaumäuse” programme.
State Secretary Richter explained that the state had started an ambitious transformation project of its educational infrastructure back in 2012 with the STARK III innovation and investment programme. In the coming years, this will lead to the development of a digital education agenda. Against this background, Saxony-Anhalt, together with the state’s economy, plans to further this transformation with a strong partner.
“We are following the committed efforts of the state of Saxony-Anhalt to create an integrated and sustainable technological infrastructure for all the schools in the state with great interest. Dr. Marianne Janik, Senior Director Public Sector and member of the executive board of Microsoft Deutschland GmbH believes the education partnership with Microsoft is a good basis for this. “Digital learning environments must become standard at German educational institutions.”
“With the help of “Microsoft Deutschland GmbH” as the strategic partner, Saxony-Anhalt will be able to satisfy the future tasks of a digital society and provide a complete starting aid for professional life or further studies to the future graduates of its schools,” says the State Secretary.
Microsoft has been successfully committed for many years to the field of educational support – with the “Besser lernen” initiative, a central point of contact was created, through which students, teachers, educational institutions and decision-makers from politics and economy could find out about the wide range of educational services with IT.
