New Plant Engineering Center: Mercury Strengthens Its Presence in Schönebeck

Mercury, a European company and leading provider of construction solutions, has opened a new off-site manufacturing facility (OSM) in Schönebeck with an investment of approximately 25 million euros.

The facility comprises approximately 13,000 square meters of modern production space. From here, engineering solutions and prefabricated systems will be developed and manufactured for delivery to project sites across a total of 15 regions in Europe. The official opening took place on April 2 during an event attended by Minister President Sven Schulze, representatives of Mercury’s management, and partner companies, including Max Bögl.

With the new facility, Mercury is strengthening its capacity for the standardized and scalable implementation of complex construction projects and further expanding its presence in key European markets. The project represents a strategic investment in the company’s further development in Europe and supports the consistent implementation of uniform quality and process standards.

Prime Minister Sven Schulze stated: “Investments like Mercury’s demonstrate that our state is becoming increasingly important as a location for modern production and industrial value creation. With efficient infrastructure, competitive conditions, and a skilled workforce, we offer companies reliable prospects for growth. I am convinced that Saxony-Anhalt will continue to be increasingly recognized by companies seeking a location and will be able to further strengthen its position in international competition.”

District Administrator Markus Bauer emphasized: “With its Future Strategy 2030, the Salzlandkreis is committed to the goal of continuing to grow as an attractive residential, economic, and scientific hub between Magdeburg and Halle. Investments like Mercury’s align perfectly with this vision. We support companies from the early stages and, together with our cities and municipalities, create the conditions so that skilled workers and their families feel at home here in the long term. This strengthens our region—and the ‘Made in the Salzlandkreis’ brand.”

In the future, the site will manufacture modular assemblies, including piping systems made of carbon and stainless steel, sprinkler systems, and infrastructure for high-purity processes. Prefabrication enables more efficient project workflows, greater precision and safety, as well as a reduction in construction site effort and resource consumption. At the same time, the facility lays the groundwork for further scaling of production capacities and helps ensure that projects can be implemented in the future in an even more predictable, efficient, and standardized manner.

Mercury CEO Eoin Vaughan stated:
“With our new OSM facility in Schönebeck, we are making a targeted investment in our ability to execute complex projects for our customers across Europe reliably, predictably, and on a larger scale. By consolidating engineering, prefabrication, and digital project management at a single location, we ensure that quality and efficiency are guaranteed throughout all project phases. At the same time, we are delighted to become part of the local community in Schönebeck and to contribute to the region’s further development.”

Mayor Bert Knoblauch added: “The fact that Mercury has maintained its commitment to establishing a European headquarters in Schönebeck despite Intel’s decision to withdraw is a strong signal of which we are very proud. From the initial contact to the present day, planning, construction, and completion have been carried out in close collaboration. For the city and its residents, this is proof of the excellent investment and economic conditions, as well as an important investment in the future.”
