Nammo Schönebeck Inaugurates New Production Facility

15 Million Euros for the Future of the Site

With the grand opening of a new production facility, Nammo Schönebeck is sending a clear signal of growth, innovation, and support for Saxony-Anhalt as an industrial hub. The global market leader in sporting ammunition is investing approximately 15 million euros in the modernization and expansion of its production site. The new facility creates additional manufacturing capacity, enables the use of state-of-the-art production technologies, and lays the foundation for further growth.

At the opening ceremony, Sven Schulze, Minister President of Saxony-Anhalt, highlighted the importance of the investment for the site’s long-term development: “With this investment, Nammo is reaffirming its commitment to our state and to the people who contribute to the company’s success every day through their dedication. This shows that Saxony-Anhalt is a modern industrial hub with excellent conditions for growth and innovation. We have dedicated skilled workers, strong companies, good infrastructure, and reliable partners. That is exactly what makes our state attractive. As the state government, we will consistently continue on this path and create the conditions necessary for companies to invest here in Saxony-Anhalt, secure existing jobs, and create new ones.”

The new production hall is the centerpiece of the first phase of a comprehensive development project. In addition to the new building, modern production equipment was purchased, a new changing room for employees was constructed, and extensive maintenance measures were carried out. The official launch will initially create twenty new jobs. A second phase of expansion, with a potential investment volume of 30 to 40 million euros and additional jobs, is currently under review.

For Alexander Wilhelm, Managing Director of Nammo Schönebeck, the opening marks an important milestone in the company’s development: “With the new production hall, we are laying the groundwork to sustainably expand our manufacturing capacities and serve our customers worldwide even more effectively. At the same time, we are making a conscious investment in the Schönebeck location and in our employees. Today’s opening is an important step in our long-term growth strategy.”

District Administrator Markus Bauer says the company’s decision demonstrates that the Salzlandkreis is perceived as an attractive location for living, business, and science. “Together with the cities and municipalities, we are creating the conditions that companies like Nammo Schönebeck seek in order to develop sustainably.” The District Administrator is pleased that products from the Salzlandkreis are used, particularly in elite sports. “This aligns with our ‘Made in Salzlandkreis’ campaign and is therefore great publicity for the region between Halle and Magdeburg.” He is convinced that these investments will provide further economic and social momentum for the region.

Schönebeck’s Mayor Bert Knoblauch also welcomes this development: “Schönebeck continues to thrive—as a strong economic and industrial hub, as a sports city, and as a great place to live. Nammo’s investment is an important signal of this and shows that companies are committed to our location for the long term. I am very pleased with this decision and thank Nammo for the trust they have placed in us.”

Nammo Schönebeck is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nammo AS, headquartered in Raufoss, Norway. The company has been part of the international Nammo Group since the site was incorporated in 1998. In Schönebeck, the company produces high-quality ammunition for sports use.

Nammo is particularly well-known in the sport of biathlon: As the global market leader in sports and biathlon ammunition, the company is internationally established. At the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, nearly 90 percent of the athletes relied on Lapua-brand ammunition from Schönebeck. Multiple Olympic champion and world champion Johannes Thingnes Bø also used Nammo ammunition for his successful competitions. Together with Raimo Helasmäki, a representative of the parent company, he traveled to Schönebeck for the opening of the production facility: “Behind every sporting success is a team—and that includes the people who develop and produce our ammunition with the utmost precision. I am very pleased to see how Nammo in Schönebeck is investing in modern manufacturing and the future. Quality, reliability, and continuous improvement are crucial—in elite sports just as much as in production,” says Johannes Thingnes Bø.

The Nammo Group employs approximately 4,000 people worldwide at locations in Europe, the U.S., the U.K., and Switzerland, and generated revenue of approximately one billion euros in 2024. The Schönebeck site is also experiencing steady growth. After having 87 employees in 2023, the workforce grew to 101 employees in 2025. The company currently employs 120 people. At the same time, revenue rose from 20.3 million euros in 2023 to 27.3 million euros in 2025.
