Halle. Today, Saxony-Anhalt's Minister of Economic Affairs, Sven Schulze, handed over a grant of 56.1 million euros, marking the start of a pioneering construction project on the Weinberg Campus in Halle (Saale). The new Business Development Center (BDC) is the largest of three planned new buildings and will expand the technology park's infrastructure by more than 40 percent over the next five years.
"With the new Business Development Center, we are not just investing in a building - we are investing in ideas, in entrepreneurial spirit and in the future of our country. Here on the Weinberg Campus, a place is being created where young technology companies can grow and innovations can find their way into practice. Saxony-Anhalt shows: We are a state that gets down to business, that can do high-tech - and that is actively shaping structural change in our region," said Minister Sven Schulze.
Strong prospects for young technology companies
With 9,250 square meters, the Business Development Center will offer 30 laboratories, 65 offices and spacious communal areas. The modular structure and an open interaction concept are designed to promote exchange and cooperation among the tenants.
Innovation meets growth - strengthening Halle as a high-tech location
Once completed, the building will be let in its entirety to young technology companies from the life sciences, health technologies and green economy sectors, according to Technology Park Managing Director Dr. Ulf-Marten Schmieder. This includes innovation fields in biotechnology and pharmaceutical technology, biomedicine and medical technology, bioeconomy and chemistry, recycling management and environmental technology as well as agricultural technology.
State and federal government secure investment
The investment volume of all three new construction projects is over 150 million euros. They are being funded by the federal government and the state of Saxony-Anhalt as part of the "Joint Task for the Improvement of Regional Economic Structures (GRW)" and the "Coal Regions Investment Act (InvKG)". The projects strengthen promising key industries such as bioeconomy, medical technology and the circular economy - a clear commitment to sustainable location development.

The Business Development Center is to become the central contact point for technology-oriented start-ups - and thus a building block for sustainable economic growth in Saxony-Anhalt.
