Mansfelder Land Lake District. Stefanie Pötzsch, State Secretary at the Ministry of Economy, Tourism, Agriculture, and Forestry, presented the municipality of Seegebiet Mansfelder Land with three grant awards for the “Tourism Development and Enhancement of Lake Süßer See in the Municipality of Seegebiet Mansfelder Land.” The approximately 20.5 million euros in federal and state funding from the Coal Regions Investment Act will be used, among other things, to build a visitor center, expand and renovate the lakeside promenade, and enhance access to the lake with barrier-free entry points.
State Secretary Stefanie Pötzsch praised the project as an important building block for successful structural change in the region. “With new recreational and cultural offerings, we are creating opportunities for visitors and locals alike and making the region around Süsser See attractive to tourists. By providing space for small-scale commercial ventures and planning a pier as a viewing and event venue, we are creating an attractive destination for day trips and local recreation.”
The three grants awarded focus on different aspects of tourism development: approximately 3.15 million euros are available for the development of the lakeside promenade. An additional approximately 885,000 euros will go toward the construction of a pier about 150 meters long. With approximately 15.8 million euros, a visitor and information center will be built at the Wirtschaftshof, which will include event spaces, a bike hub for cycling tourists, and an archaeological experience village.
