The Coroplast Group officially opened its new production facility in Schönebeck (Elbe) today. With this plant, the Coroplast Tape division is expanding its production capacity for high-performance acrylic adhesive tapes while also laying the groundwork for further growth in new industrial applications—including the manufacture of high-voltage batteries for the automotive and electrical industries.
The internationally active family-owned company from Wuppertal invested approximately 25 million euros in the first construction phase of the new plant in Schönebeck (Elbe)’s West Industrial Park. It comprises approximately 3,500 square meters of floor space for production, warehousing, and office areas. Spanning more than five hectares, the site also has ample space for future expansion phases. By the end of 2026, the site will employ around 22 people; in the long term, the area offers development potential for over 100 jobs.
Sven Schulze, Minister President of the State of Saxony-Anhalt, said at the opening: “The launch of the Coroplast site in Schönebeck is a major success for Saxony-Anhalt as a business location. The investment of around 25 million euros strengthens our industrial base, creates high-quality jobs, and generates additional value in the region. At the same time, it demonstrates that our state can hold its own in the global competition among business locations. Such future-oriented industries play a decisive role in actively shaping the transformation of our economy and further establishing Saxony-Anhalt as an attractive investment location. I am very proud of that.”
During the opening ceremony, Natalie Mekelburger, CEO of the Coroplast Group, emphasized: “For us, this investment is far more than just a new plant. It is a clear commitment to innovation, to industrial value creation in Germany, and to long-term growth. The Schönebeck site will play an important role in our international production and innovation network in the future.”
Marcus Söhngen, COO and Managing Director of the Coroplast Group, added: “With the new plant in Schönebeck, we are specifically expanding our capacities for high-performance acrylate adhesive tapes while simultaneously laying the foundation for new product families and applications. The site offers us excellent conditions for further growth—both technologically and in terms of space and personnel. We are particularly pleased with the strong support from political and administrative bodies throughout the entire relocation phase.”
At the regional level, too, the plant’s launch is viewed as an important step for economic development. Markus Bauer, District Administrator of the Salzlandkreis, said: “Strategic thinking and action, innovation, and ambition—thanks to its own philosophy, the company fits perfectly into our Salzlandkreis 2030 future strategy. Because we have equally ambitious goals. This includes creating sustainable conditions that make the rural region between Magdeburg and Halle an attractive place to live, do business, and conduct research—where committed people feel at home. Through our commitment, we will continue to ensure that the company can establish itself in the Salzlandkreis.”
Bert Knoblauch, Mayor of the City of Schönebeck (Elbe), added: “We are proud that our location advantages were able to convince the globally active family-owned company Coroplast to pursue its investment project in Schönebeck. From the initial contact in mid-2022 to the present, planning, construction, and completion have taken place in close collaboration. Now, a new innovative product ‘Made in Schönebeck’ can be produced. For the city and its residents, this is an important investment in the future.”
