Anhalt University of Applied Sciences has made it into the top 200 most sustainable universities worldwide for the first time. Anhalt University of Applied Sciences was ranked 195th in the international "Green Metric" 2023 ranking, with a total of 1183 renowned universities and colleges from 84 countries taking part. The assessment is based on the three sustainability pillars of environment, economy and social value and includes indicators such as environment and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation, education and research.
Sustainability enjoys an exceptionally high priority at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, which focuses both on the future-oriented focus of teaching and research work and on the environmentally friendly management of existing buildings and outdoor facilities. The "Green Metric" ranking process offers a way of evaluating these efforts. Since 2019, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences has actively participated in the international comparison, evaluating the use of energy in the context of global climate change, the ecological management of water, wastewater and waste and the integration of sustainability aspects into teaching and research.
Despite the positive assessment, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences is not resting on its laurels. Further measures are constantly being discussed and implemented within the university committees, particularly in the sustainability working group. This includes the increased integration of sustainability issues in teaching and research, long-term strategies for saving energy and the promotion of renewable energies through the expansion of buildings and outdoor facilities. The responsible use of resources such as paper, water and waste as well as the preservation of a diverse biodiversity on campus are further key concerns in the coming years.
