4th Central German Algae Roundtable

Algae on the plate, in plastic, and in the tank: Future technology meets practical application in Köthen

What do sustainable nutrition, climate-friendly materials, and innovative raw materials have in common? The answer: algae.

At the 4th Central German Algae Roundtable on May 5 and 6, 2026, in Köthen, experts from across Germany will demonstrate how versatile these “green all-rounders” already are today—and what potential they still hold.

The event at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences brings together science, business, and politics. The focus is on concrete applications: from functional foods and bioactive compounds to bioplastics and algae oil.

A rare highlight: During the interactive algae cooking class, not only experts but also political representatives will be at the stove—bringing innovation to life.

“We want to show that algae are no longer just a vision of the future, but offer concrete solutions—here and now,” emphasizes Prof. Dr. Carola Griehl.

In addition to expert presentations and discussions, the Algae Roundtable offers numerous opportunities for networking and developing new collaborations.
