The medium-sized center of Köthen (Anhalt) is relatively centrally located in Saxony-Anhalt in the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld and between the major cities of Magdeburg, Dessau-Roßlau and Halle (Saale).

 

The federal highways B183, B 185 and B 6n run through the town. Via these federal highways, Köthen (Anhalt) has a direct connection to the supra-regional

road network (BAB 9, BAB 14). This provides a good starting point for transportation via the road network and accessibility to metropolitan cities.

 

Köthen (Anhalt) is well connected to the German rail network. The central train station is an important stop for regional and long-distance traffic.

 

Köthen (Anhalt) is connected to the waterway network via the Akener Elbhafen heavy goods port, around 12 km away, to which there is a rail connection and a road-based heavy goods route (Erfurt - Aken). The overseas port of Hamburg can be reached from Aken via the waterway network.

 

The intercontinental and global cargo airport Leipzig/Halle is approx. 47 km away.

 

As an important business location, Köthen offers an attractive mix of traditional crafts, industry and the service sector. With a location of the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences (HS), the town has a capacity for teaching and research, which also represents great innovation potential for the region. Existing cultural and tourist attractions and good transport links create positive conditions for the location.

 

The Köthen-Ost commercial and industrial area is located on the eastern edge of the town. It was formerly used for agriculture and has an area of around 55 ha. There are legally binding development plans for the site. Expanding companies in the logistics, food industry, mechanical engineering and trade sectors have successfully settled here. The area is particularly suitable for companies in the manufacturing and skilled trades sectors. The successful mix of companies located there has already resulted in a variety of synergies, particularly with Anhalt University of Applied Sciences.
