MANSFELD-SÜDHARZ is located in the southwest of the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt in the middle of Germany, right in the middle of the action! The district town is Sangerhausen. The north of the district is dominated by the Mansfeld uplands. To the east is the Harz foreland with its almost forest-free and undulating landscape. To the west, parts of the southern Harz belong to the district. In the south-west, the district ends with the fertile area of the Goldene Aue. The district is divided into nine single municipalities and two association municipalities.

Berga is located at an important traffic junction directly on the BAB 38 not far from the Südharz interchange (BAB 71/BAB 38). The B 85 branches off to the south in the direction of Kyffhäuser and the country road to Stolberg to the north. The town is connected to the local public transport network and has an extensive passenger and freight station. With the development of the large-scale industrial estates to the east of the town in 1991, the municipality achieved structural change.
