MANSFELD-SÜDHARZ is located in the southwest of the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt in the middle of Germany, right in the middle of the action! The district town is Sangerhausen. The north of the district is dominated by the Mansfeld uplands. To the east is the Harz foreland with its almost forest-free and undulating landscape. To the west, parts of the southern Harz belong to the district. In the south-west, the district ends with the fertile area of the Goldene Aue. The district is divided into nine single municipalities and two association municipalities.

The TOWN OF HETTSTEDT is connected to the national and regional transport network via federal and state roads. Not far from Hettstedt are the junctions to the A14 and the A38. The B180 and B86 federal highways are connected to the L152 and L158 country roads in the town area. But Hettstedt is also accessible by rail. The main railway station is located in the heart of the town, with a direct connection to the Magdeburg - Sangerhausen - Erfurt railroad line.
