The town of Gardelegen is located in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel district, north of Magdeburg, in Saxony-Anhalt. Gardelegen lies on a plateau in the Milde River valley in the northwestern part of Saxony-Anhalt, at an elevation of approximately 30 to 100 meters. Situated at the confluence of the Milde and the Laugebach, the Altmark town of Gardelegen is nestled between a hilly terminal moraine landscape and river valleys to the north and an expansive, beautiful heathland to the south. The B 71 from Magdeburg or Uelzen and the B 188 from Stendal or Wolfsburg lead to Gardelegen, meaning that Gardelegen has not only good north-south connections but also good east-west connections. The nearest highway access points are approximately 50 km away near Magdeburg (Ebendorf) or Wolfsburg.
