A new European center for the microtech industry is being created in Saxony-Anhalt. New benchmarks are being set here: companies such as SIOUX, Avnet and Mercury are setting the starting signal. At the same time, the state of Saxony-Anhalt is developing Europe's largest supra-regional industrial and commercial area - the High Tech Park.
HERE something new is emerging in Europe.
Advantage Saxony-Anhalt
Well prepared
Saxony-Anhalt offers with the High-Tech Park the largest contiguous commercial and industrial area in Europe.
Saxony-Anhalt creates an environment for specialists in microelectronics with specially developed degree courses and training opportunities.
Saxony-Anhalt supports the development of an ecosystem for microtechnology - from pre-production to application.
High-Tech Park (HTP)
Welcome to Silicon Junction
The High-Tech Park, the largest industrial area in Saxony-Anhalt with a gross area of 1,100 hectares, presents itself as a pioneering step into the future. Of this total area, around 700 hectares are available as open space. Ultramodern technology companies in chip manufacturing, research institutions, startups, visionaries, service providers and tradespeople will find a unique location for growth in Europe at HTP.

The top specialists of the future are being trained HERE!
Study programs and training in microtechnology

Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg is building a talent pipeline for microtechnology - from apprenticeships to doctorates. With degree courses and continuing education programs, urgently needed specialists for semiconductors, AI, robotics and medical technology are being trained and the region is being sustainably strengthened.
New location of the Microtec Academy

Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg has been the official location of the federally funded Microtec Academy for Micro- and Nanotechnologies since February 2024. As part of the academy, the university is developing new personnel and further training modules and further expanding its role as a central education and research location in Saxony-Anhalt.
At the heart of this "talent pipeline" is the university's modernized clean room, which is also open to partners from science and industry as a core facility. The aim is to train urgently needed specialists, attract international talent and establish a strong network and joint endowed professorships.
Cooperation in technology development & application
Key technologies for the future of microelectronics are being developed in Saxony-Anhalt. With innovative approaches in advanced packaging, chiplet integration and hardware security, the Fraunhofer Institutes IPMS and IMWS are making an important contribution to strengthening the regional research and industrial landscape. This will further expand Saxony-Anhalt as a location for high technology and integrate it closely into the European value chain.
Design tools for improved hardware security of RFETs

In the "DI-ReDesign" project, the Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems IMWS and partners are developing openly accessible design libraries for reconfigurable transistors (RFETs). These enable secure and efficient chip design and offer improved protection against hardware attacks.

Avnet sets new standards: Modern distribution center in Bernburg (Saale)
"With an investment of over 225 million euros, one of the most modern high-performance distribution centers in Europe is being built in Bernburg (Saale). State-of-the-art distribution halls, innovative office space and a specialized product processing center are being built on an impressive 190,000 m² site." The location is strategically chosen: The proximity to Leipzig/Halle freight airport guarantees fast, worldwide deliveries. Around 700 new jobs will be created by 2031 - a strong boost for the region.
The new site in Bernburg complements Avnet's European logistics centers and underlines the importance of the German market for global growth. The project stands for innovation, efficiency and the future - and makes Bernburg a central hub in the international movement of goods.

Mercury invests 25 million euros - a strong signal

The Irish engineering and construction company Mercury is investing €25 million in the first phase of a state-of-the-art development and production facility in Schönebeck (Elbe), Saxony-Anhalt. The new facility will serve as an engineering center and production hub for complex systems and will employ up to 200 skilled workers. In the future, the investment could rise to 45 million euros.
With 15,000 m² of production and operating space, Mercury is focusing on innovative, efficient processes and is thus strengthening its position as a leading provider of construction and building services solutions for key sectors such as data centers, semiconductors and the pharmaceutical industry. The decision in favor of Schönebeck was made due to the excellent location conditions, the support from the state and city and the optimal connections. Construction began in October 2024. This move underlines Mercury's commitment to sustainable growth and security of supply in Europe.
