Battery and energy storage

The future is saved HERE.

Sustainable economic activity requires the responsible use of resources - in Saxony-Anhalt, this is a reality. Around half of the electricity generated here already comes from renewable energies. Saxony-Anhalt also has extensive experience in dealing with renewable raw materials and biotechnological processes - for example as a basis for industry, energy and nutrition.

As a traditional location for the food, chemical, wood/cellulose and agricultural industries, Saxony-Anhalt has extensive experience in dealing with bio-based raw materials and their potential. HERE the natural cycles are understood, bioeconomic thinking is anchored and standards for sustainable management are set.

Success stories

European lithium refinery

With the first European lithium refinery in the Bitterfeld-Wolfen Chemical Park, AMG Lithium GmbH is setting new standards in battery production. As a subsidiary and part of the globally operating group for critical raw materials AMG Critical Materials N.V., the company combines comprehensive expertise in research, development and production with a secure raw material base from its own mine in Brazil.

AMG Lithium produces high-quality battery-grade lithium hydroxide in Saxony-Anhalt, making it the first supplier with a production facility on the European mainland.

New gel

Chemists at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) have developed a new gel as part of the "BAT4EVER" project, which was funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 program. It could prevent the highly flammable electrolyte liquid in lithium-ion batteries from leaking and improve the performance and service life of the batteries. This would also be important for the field of electromobility.

Revolutionary anode technology

NorcSi GmbH from Halle (Saale) is developing an innovative anode made of pure silicon that could increase the range of electric vehicles to up to 1,800 kilometers. The patented technology increases energy density, shortens charging times and reduces production costs - a milestone for battery technology.
