A place of ideas and visions
The Central German Multimedia Center (MMZ) in Halle (Saale) is home to a young, innovative and dynamically growing media industry - a melting pot of the creative industries. More than 200 companies have started their business development here as start-ups. The Institute for Media and Communication Studies at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, with around 500 students, is also based at the MMZ.
After the MMZ was severely damaged by the floods in 2013, the city of Halle (Saale) renovated the media center without interrupting operations. Around 21 million euros from the flood aid provided by the state of Saxony-Anhalt was invested in repairing the damage - combined with a further development of the center's content.
The centerpiece today is the new post-production studio with Dolby Atmos cinema mixing, the technical standard of which is unique in Europe. With its expertise, the MMZ will in future also increasingly focus on companies that develop internet-based services such as search engines or software applications.
