Chemistry connects
For over 100 years, the name Leuna has been inextricably linked with the chemical industry. Pioneering work was done HERE - including the world's first production of methanol using a high-pressure process and the large-scale production of synthetic fuels using lignite hydrogenation. Today, Leuna is home to the largest contiguous chemical park in Germany. On an area of 13 square kilometers, more than 100 companies from ten nations are working on innovative solutions for the chemical industry of the future. Well-known corporations such as ARKEMA, BASF, DOMO, Innospec, Linde and TotalEnergies are represented, as are numerous medium-sized companies.
Over nine billion euros have been invested in the Leuna site since 1990. The ultra-modern, flexible and efficient infrastructure for the entire chemical park is provided and operated by InfraLeuna GmbH.
Leuna is thinking ahead - with a clear focus on sustainability: the site is increasingly focusing on forward-looking technologies such as the use of biomass and the production and application of green hydrogen.
