Haseloff: Hydrogen is an ideal storage medium for renewable energies

A test infrastructure for hydrogen was put into operation today in Bitterfeld-Wolfen in the presence of Minister President Dr Reiner Haseloff. A hydrogen filling station was opened in Halle.

“Hydrogen is the ideal storage medium for renewable energies. If it is obtained from renewable energies, it is completely free from emissions. The only thing to arise during its use is water vapour. With the new infrastructure, it will be possible to evaluate hydrogen infrastructures and the use of hydrogen on a technical, economic and ecological basis in a real test field," explained Haseloff in Bitterfeld-Wolfen.

The new test infrastructure forms part of the HYPOS Initiative for Hydrogen, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the "Twenty-20 Partnership for Innovation" programme.

At the opening of the filling station in Halle, Haseloff praised fuel cell technology as an alternative to conventional systems of propulsion: "Handling which is comparable to conventional filling stations, comparable speed and range – and virtually free from any noise or pollutants. This second hydrogen filling station in Saxony-Anhalt after Magdeburg fills another gap in the hydrogen supply network"

The filling station is being operated by the H2-Mobility initiative.
