25 years of innovations: Fraunhofer IFF celebrates anniversary
The Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation IFF in Magdeburg celebrated its 25-year anniversary with a ceremony on 14 September 2017. 250 guests from Germany and abroad accepted the Institute’s invitation and experienced an evening that was entirely characterised by “25 years of innovations”.
The Minister-President of the Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt, Reiner Haseloff, expressed his congratulations on the occasion of the anniversary and emphasised the importance of the research institute for the state: “The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is a direct part of the science-friendly and future-oriented character of our state. Science and research are the keys to a comprehensive knowledge-based economic system. Only with these aspects will we be successful in the 21st century and ensure our prosperity. Today I would like to thank all those who are involved in the Fraunhofer IFF.”
The Fraunhofer IFF was founded in 1992 from the former Technical University Otto von Guericke in Magdeburg. Despite the difficult conditions of the post-reunification period and the profound change in the East German economy, it quickly developed into one of the most important industry-oriented research institutes in Saxony-Anhalt. Researchers in Magdeburg recognised at a very early stage what the challenges of the economy will be in the future and accordingly oriented their research and development work from the outset. For example, this includes the digitalisation and networking of the economy, conserving resources in production and the sustainable utilisation and transformation of energy as well as the development of more intelligent operating systems.
Today the Institute collaborates with companies and research partners all over the world. It is a source of innovation and inspiration for the local economy and especially supports companies on their way to digitalisation.
The Director of Fraunhofer IFF, Professor Michael Schenk, also expressed his gratitude for the necessary confidence that the sphere of politics and economy rendered to the Institute from the beginning on and looked optimistically to the future: “25 years of innovation! I can only express my sincere thanks to all the project partners who challenged us with their projects and implemented unconventional ideas together with us. It is very clear to us: companies need smart technologies for efficient, sustainable and networked production more than ever. That is why we at the Fraunhofer IFF will also continue to be a reliable partner and support our clients on the path to intelligent production. We will continue to conduct cutting-edge research and develop tailor-made solutions for the economy.”
