Saxony-Anhalt’s industry records an increase in turnover in the first half of the year

In the first half of the year 2017, 109,109 people were employed on average in Saxony-Anhalt’s industrial enterprises*. This was 0.6 percent less than a year before. The sales achieved increased by 3.9 percent to 18.2 billion EUR. The State Statistical Office made these statements on the basis of currently available provisional data.

The chemical industry clearly increased sales during this period by 8.6 percent to 3.4 billion EUR and recorded a slight decline of 0.3 percent among the workforce (11,844 people).

The production of food and feedstuffs was still the sector with the largest workforce in Saxony-Anhalt. The number of employees (18,307 people) in this sector declines by 2.3 percent, while the sales in the first 6 months increased by 6.5 percent to 3.2 billion EUR. As the second largest sector in terms of workforce, the mechanical engineering workforce declined by 2.1 percent to 12,544 employees with a simultaneous increase in turnover from 3.2 percent to 1.2 billion EUR.
