Finsterwalder - Expansion of the Logistics Center in Halle/Saale

The kick-off for the building of another site of the Finsterwalder Group at the Halle/Saale location was made. Rather unspectacular, the first areas were rounded by excavators.

Finsterwalder ranks amongst the big logistics companies and important employers in Saxony-Anhalt. The building of another logistics center extends the story of success of the Bavarian company further, which was found exactly 80 years ago by today’s owner Klaus Finsterwalder's parents.

The investment reaching the millions is a positive signal for the city and creates new jobs at the Halle/Saale location, which has been existing for 26 years already.

First Stage of Construction
In 2014, the first logistics center was finished.
There are several rack units with a capacity of more than 30,000 pallet spaces on a building area of 20,000 m². The warehouse has permission for the storage of hazardous materials pursuant to the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG). Therefore it is equipped with up to date fire protection appliances. On further areas, Finsterwalder offers value-added logistics services for different customers.

New Stage of Construction
In order to cope with the customers' increasing requirements, Finsterwalder Transport and Logistik GmbH decided to build another property.

At the Halle/Saale location – Grenzstrasse 11, a new, separated by open ground logistics center is to be created, which is functional independently useable. It is suitable for numerous customer products because of its constructive design. Here, great importance is set on facility safety and the topic hygiene. In the planned high rack also the most recent, induction controlled high rack control panels are used, which shorten in-plant transport times.
A modern Cross-Docking Center is being built.

Using intelligent IT software optimizes processes in the incoming and outgoing goods department.
The software, thus, also shortens long standing times of semis at the 82 loading ramps. The warehouse software also manages inventory and documents goods movement.
The organization of processes is being done in an organizationally independent unit.

On commissioning and assembling areas the customer products are handled logistically.
In the end, an efficient logistics facility is built that produces low process costs due to efficient controlling and, thus, highly contributes to the company’s competitiveness.

Amongst the tasks at the new location is above all taking over logistics work in the scope of outsourcing projects of the industry, but also the operation of logistic hubs.
The biggest part of services in the new facility will be generated by logistics services. At the end of the logistic chain is the dispatch of goods to the recipient.

The Halle/Saale site is a terminal and, thus, a logistic hub in the CargoLine system. CargoLine ranks amongst the biggest logistics systems in Germany, which organize standardized dispatch of unit loads in Europe. Over 80% of customers are from industrial economy.
Due to the Europe wide orientation of the logistics system, national turnovers are achieved.
The goods arrive at the logistics center and are then pre-sorted according to several criteria. These can be time criteria but also goods specific criteria in the food or chemicals industry.
The bigger part of the goods comes from the logistics warehouse of the new facility to be build. The other part is delivered through external logistics companies.

For a lot of consignments further logistics work is required, as for example, customs clearing as well as returns management.

Compliance with the latest environmental relevant requirements is one more point. And thus, also here an effective contribution to “Green Logistics” can be created.
Finsterwalder Transport and Logistik has been certified according to environment DIN ISO 14001 since 2003 and a member of the Environmental Alliance Saxony-Anhalt since 2017.

The completion is planned for the end of 2017.
