TRIMET expands Harzgerode location - the investments reach 50 million euros. About 850 employees produce high-quality die-cast components for the automotive, electrical and machine construction industries in Harzgerode. Read more.

Merz Invests 15 Million Euros in New Production Plant for Dermal Fillers. In addition to the approximately 100 existing employees in Dessau, 25 new jobs will be created. At its site in Dessau, Merz has been producing a special botulinum neurotoxin since 2008 that is free of complex proteins and used in both neurology and aesthetic medicine. Company expansion of CRI Catalyst: CRI Catalyst Leuna GmbH, which is part of the Shell corporation, has invested around €100 million in new plants in Saxony-Anhalt since 1998. With a new reduction plant, another €30 million add to this. This should open four vacancies for highly qualified employees. CRI Catalyst currently employs 122 employees and 5 trainees at the site. thyssenkrupp further invests in the expansion of the steering facility in Schönebeck in Saxony-Anhalt. Around 65 new jobs will be created there. The construction of the new production hall and the purchase of machines and systems are supported by subsidies of the state of Saxony-Anhalt. Read more.

Change of ownership at VEM, manufacturer of electric drive systems, special motors and special purpose machines. A Chinese family investor buys VEM and wants to keep the brand and all the branches. Kick-off of medical technology foundation Neoscan Solutions GmbH. The innovative company wants to develop and produce special MRIs for children and infants.The close cooperation with the medical technology research campus STIMULATE of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) is crucial for its foundation in the state capital. RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT:

Global Bioenergies: First success in scaling up the Isobutene process in the Leuna Demo plant. The company has succeeded in producing Isobutene by fermentation at the scale of the Leuna Demo plant (a 5,000 litre fermenter), with run length and performances exceeding those performed on the pilot plant in Pomacle (a 500 litre fermenter). Success in this phase of the process’ scale up was obtained less than five months after start-up of the fermentation unit at the Leuna Demo plant, in December 2016. This success is an important milestone on the critical path to large scale operation of the Isobutene process. Click HERE for all information.

Transfer of technology to the cornfield - Mechanical engineers at the University of Magdeburg develop e-mobile for agriculture. It is a so-called light stilt tractor, a type of lifting platform on stilts and wheels. In this way, corn farmers can drive over the metre-high corn plants and apply the biological pesticide. New procedure generates highest resolution pictures so far of the brain. Scientists of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg have developed a procedure through which brain structures can be illustrated in an unprecedented resolution. By publishing it in the renowned specialist journal Nature Scientific Data, they have now provided the unique image data set to scientists worldwide for further research purposes. Read HERE.

Opening of the new transfer station Leuna Nord for the chemical site Leuna. With the station, the chemical park of Leuna now has two links to the Deutsche Bahn network. Twelve million tons of goods are annually taken away from the chemical site Leuna – around 70 percent by rail. In order to manage the expected increase of transport quantities in the next few years, InfraLeuna made investments of around Euro 7 million for the installation of the new transfer station Leuna Nord, to the west of the regional station „Leuna-Werke Nord“.
