Saxony-Anhalt is at the forefront of the renewable energy sector and is the only federal state which already covers 20.5% of all the power used from renewable energy. In the so-called "Solar Valley", a region around Thalheim, a photovoltaic location of global importance is currently underway, where leading and expanding manufacturers of solar cells have established themselves.
Also located there is the company Q-Cells, Europe's largest independent producer of solar cells, whose core industry is the development, manufacture and marketing of powerful mono- and multi-crystalline silicon solar cells. According to a recent study, Q-Cells is the most profitable company in Germany.
The expansion of the Q-Cells AG facilities was aided by the European Fund for Regional Development which also helped to create 1322 secure jobs since the formation of the company.
