In recent years Saxony-Anhalt has developed into one of the leading business centers in Germany. More and more companies are establishing themselves in the state or expanding their existing premises. The state's favorable location factors are valued, but particularly its central position in Europe and its efficient transportation infrastructure.
With its network of 123 major companies in 19 countries, the Otto Group is an international market leader in the trading and services sector. Hermes Warehousing Solutions GmbH (HWS), a 100% subsidiary of the Otto Group, offers a full range of goods logistics services and has set up one Europe's largest and most modern shipping centers in Haldensleben.
Through the expansion of the facilities in Haldensleben, which was funded by EU Structure Funds, 294 new jobs were created and 1325 existing jobs were secured.
Since 2000, 6.000 projects in Saxony-Anhalt have been aided by EU Structural Fund resources.
This enabled the creation of around 24,000 jobs, and secured a further 78,400 jobs.
