The food industry in Saxony-Anhalt is rich in tradition and can boast above average success.
Furthermore, modern technology and the production of goods geared to market requirements ensure that the food industry belongs to the most successful new industries of Saxony-Anhalt.
The Molkereigenossenschaft Bad Bibra AG is not only the most important buyer of milk from local farmers, but is also a well-known name to cheese producers in Italy, Japan, Russia and Korea. In 2000, the company won the "Oscar" for medium-sized businesses, which, amongst other things, was awarded for innovation and the modernization of the company and also the creation and securing of jobs and apprenticeships.
With the help of the EU Structure Fund, a new production line for mozzarella and pizza cheese was set up and a multipurpose hall was built and, because of this, larger amounts of goods can be purchased at one time, thereby reducing costs and thus taking a further step towards success in Europe.
Since 2000, 6.000 projects in Saxony-Anhalt have been aided by EU Structural Fund resources.
This enabled the creation of around 24,000 jobs, and secured a further 78,400 jobs.
